Newsroom simulation for Asia training

January 13, 2025

In November the IMS’ Asia department held a workshop for partners that partly consisted of a digital news room simulation. The participants were divided into groups and made responsible for their “own” media site created for the workshop. Here they should cover a fictional typhoon based on inputs from (fictional) news telegrams, (fictional) social media posts and a constant flow of (fictional) data coming for their website analytics and their social media platforms.

The purpose of the training was to show participants how the real time data on audiences can be applied in newsroom decision making to inform content and distribution strategies.

The 3 media sites were created by Digital Publishing Lab, and the participants were able to

  1. publish articles in different formats,
  2. prioritize the articles on the home page,
  3. change content of a banner and
  4. post social media content (in a separate section on the website).

See an example from the workshop here.
